He left TV hosting just to become Gibo Teodoro’s running mate with the assurance that he will be supported by the Lakas-Kampi-CMD financially and providing him a nationwide campaign machinery to insure his victory.
“The person who has accepted the challenge of standing beside Secretary Teodoro in the quest to become the next president of the Republic of the Philippines and the next vice-president of the Republic of the Philippines, no other than former OMB chairman Edu Manzano,” Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno made this surprise announcement at a press conference in Shangri-La Makati way back on November last year.
In fact Manzano’s decision to join the presidential race as a vice-president under the banner of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD had something to do with the huge administration coalition’s party machinery and campaign war chest. Manzano said he did not want a repeat of his “traumatic” experience when he ran for a vice mayor of Makati in 2001 where he was forced to sell his house when he ran short of money to support his campaign.
History Repeats Itself?
Does history repeats itself on Manzano’s running for presidency? Recently there had been reports that Manzano was backing out from the vice presidential race after campaign manager Reli German decried lack of support from the Lakas-Kampi party. But Manzano denied said speculation. He said ” I’m running, and I’m running to win together with Mr. Gilbert Teodoro.”
Nobody can tell if Edu Manzano is too nice with the administration party despite limited support or too proud to accept he committed another blunder again with his decision to run. But even his running mate presidential bet Gibo Teodoro is now experiencing a weaning support from the administration party. Either other party members are being more practical to shift their support to stronger contenders or have been bought by a more moneyed presidential candidate.
No TV ads still for Edu?
Other vice- presidential candidates like Mar Roxas, Loren Legarda, Bayani Fernando, and even Yasay have their own TV ads but I still have to see one for Edu Manzano. I might be wrong but please correct me if you have seen on to this day. He is a TV personality and may be a very popular celebrity in the country but people need to know his platform as a vice-president. That’s why up to now he has not improved yet with his 2% rating in the surveys.
Anyway survey ratings do not guarantee one’s winning in the presidential race. The Erap camps still believes the former president could still win despite Manny Villar and Noynoy Aquino’s being on statistical tie at the surveys. Many believe that surveys as just for propaganda purposes. But even though, like Bayani Fernando, Edu Manzano is still at the cellar.
“All By Myself” na nga ba sila?
Ngunit at the rate things are going, medyo malayo pa ang umaga sa dalawa.
Nakakalungkot isipin (I hope not) Edu is a loser.
