Now that Loren Legarda and Manny Villar have already made official their alliance as a running mate for the 2010 presidential election, there are some speculations circulating around in public that Kabayan (VP Noli de Castro) is already quitting politics and ready to go back to his former job as a broadcaster after his term. Is it?
There is nothing certain yet with Kabayan according to his spokesperson lawyer Ronadale Zapata. “He is not disclosing yet his plans for next year. We will see by December 1 if he will or will not file his certificate of candidacy,” he said.
Earlier the Lakas-Kampi-CMD offered him to run as Gilbert Teodoro’s VP but because of “continued ambiguity of his political plan,” Edu Manzano was instead chosen as his replacement.
Villar (in an ambush interview) refused also to answer why he did not choose Kabayan Noli de Castro as his running mate as reported in abs-cbnNews.com. But a “source in de Castro’s camp, who declined to be named, said that unlike in 2001, when the ABS-CBN broadcaster first ran for the Senate, and in 2004, when he ran for vice president, there are still “no marching orders” this time.” So, what does this mean; are there people behind/ handling Noli de Castro’s political career? Perhaps these people maybe that powerful just to stamp on Kabayan whatever they want him to do in his political career? I hope I am wrong.
For what good does it make for a political leader to be surrounded by powerful people and all his decisions are undermined by them? What good does it make for Noynoy Aquino (if ever he wins the presidential race) only to be dictated upon by powerful people who supported him in all the major decisions he makes as a leader? The “utang na loob” (debt of gratitude) values has no place in governance (except on the clamor of the general public who voted you) for good governance and delivery of basic social services to the people.
And what about the Villar-Legarda tandem, on questions of morality/credibility in public service, isn’t Loren accused her leading man of corruption (then) because of the alleged C-5 road extension anomaly? But Villar has a prepared answer for such queries, that there’s no other motive for linking him to anomalous transactions in the like of the C-5 road extension project but politics. Some presidentiables were out then to destroy his credibility for their own political interest. But things have changed now, Senate committee report signed by 13 senators (?) has already absolved him. Did Loren sign the document in his favor?
As they say, there is no permanent friend or enemy in politics. There is only permanent interest. Politics is addition, did Loren consider this thing of paramount importance in forging alliance with the NP’s standard bearer? Manny has money and Loren needs Manny for the money needed to run as a VP. NP’s and NPC’s money combined can insure Loren’s victory to be the next VP which Kabayan denied of her during the 2004 presidential election.
According to Manny Villar there’s a logical reason behind for choosing Loren as his VP because of the convergence of both their “vision and flatform of government.”
But what about his friend Kabayan Noli de Castro? As far as Gilbert Remulla (NP’s spokesperson) is concerned Noli de Castro “did not signify his intention to seek for a public post.”
Noli’s rating has gone down to 4% from his 16% in the August Pulse Asia Survey. But Noli has the history of making last minute decision. He might surprise everyone perhaps by filing his candidacy either as a President or VP as an independent candidate. But some political analysts said it might be too late.
