Welcome to the Philippines Mrs. Clinton

Thank God the United States  Secretary of  State Hillary Rodham Clinton has safely arrived in Manila. Welcome to the Philippines Mrs. Clinton.

About six thousand cops have been deployed on strategic places in Metro Manila to ensure her safety.  As expected she will be greeted with street protests and rallies from youth activists and cause oriented groups who are very much against the VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement).

But American aid officials have defended the Visiting Forces Agreement as something beneficial for the Philippines since it allows US troops to quickly respond to calamities.

Despite Mrs. Clinton’s expression of sympathy and interest to render assistance to the typhoon victims still student activists and militant groups are suspicious about her visit in the Philippine and tag it as it is nothing but to insure US forces presence in the Philippines through the continuation of the Visiting Forces Agreement.

“The visit of Mrs. Clinton in the Philippines will be a mere publicity stunt, and the entire promise of the Obama administration — that it is going around the world for a renewed multilateralism, and for the opening up of the United States towards greater involvement in the world — will be all for a sham,” according to the League of Filipino Students Secretary General Terry Ridon.

On the other hand there are other groups of neutral students who want to have a dialogue with her and know what America has to promote the general welfare and interests of the youth all over the world.

Of course Mrs. Clinton did not come here for nothing. She will have an audience with president Arroyo and what they may discuss in public or in private is something worth knowing since this greatly affects our bilateral relationship with the US. In their meeting, whose interest will prevail? I hope the Philippines will not be at the losing end.

Responses

  1. Mrs. Clinton went to Marikina yesterday to talk about assistance to typhoon victims.

But her greater concerned is about the VFA if they can come and go legally in the country of the Philippines.

    Many admiration her ha.

  2. Me, I just observe. America is hard to deal in many things because they are very magulang.

  3. Hillary has already said her message, stop corruption and you will get support and assistance from the US.

Abrogate the VFA and you are all alone.

  4. Whoever repla es Gloria will also be subservient to Uncle Sam. Don’t tell me Noynoy can afford to sever Philippine-US relations by abrogating the VFA

  6. If I have a chance to ask her itatanong ko lang, kumosta na sila ni Monica ngayon.

    What?

  10. It’s been one year since President Barack Obama was elected in one of the most historical elections in American history. It was historic because he was the first African-American president and because, for the first time in years, people came together and made their voices heard. For a moment the country came together and said, “Yes, we CAN change the world.” A year later reality has set in and the honeymoon is certainly over. But that doesn’t mean the love has gone.

  11. Pareng Cocoy,
Barack Obama has a lot of things yet to learn. Give him another year to fine tune his skills as a world leader. I guess that’s where love comes in. To those who love and admire this man, give him another chance, one more chance.

  12. One more chance? One more chance?
All you aske is one more chance, (only) to break my heart?

Maybe tama. To prove that percieved sincerity to achieve “Change we need”.

Maybe enough. Because you did not plan before you made that promise.

    Oh, Barack, my Barack.

Do I always have to hope?

  14. Heto pala ang sinasabi ko, I read this yesterday in the Inquirer pero wala na. This is from the Manila Standard today’s issue.

    ___

Obama writes MILF, supports peace talks

US President Barack Obama has sent a letter to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front assuring them of America’s continued support for the peace process and expressing a desire to see formal negotiations resume as soon as possible.

MILF vice chairman for political affairs Ghazali Jaafar said the letter was “aimed at moving the peace talks forward.” http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/insideNews.htm?f=2009/november/14/news5.isx&d=/2009/november/14

Cover up lang yung kanyang kuni-kuni!

  15. Salamat for sa link.

Klaro iyan at dapat idiin ng husto sa ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa US of A, hehehe.

  16. Hey Colegiala girl, do you still remember me? I’m prof. Banong and I’m back again in circulation.
