Deal or no Deal, Nandiyan na ang Giyera (Giyera Patani?)

If we were to believe vice-governor Pinol there is a brewing armed conflict going on in Mindanao, particularly North Cotabato. But this time it is not between the “restrained Armed Forces” and the MILF. It is an MILF-armed civilian conflict if unabated may escalate to the entire region. With a greater majority of the people (not necessarily Christians) resisting the inclusion of their territory to the Bangsamoro Territorial Domain, aren’t we seeing a resurgence of another armed conflict in Mindanao just like in the 60’s or 70’s?

But with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front forces already attacking communities in North Cotabato, and with the military not doing anything about it because the provincial officials are against the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain, where will this go? Aren’t the affected communities have the right to bear arms for self-defense?

“A lot of homes have been burned down. Livestock were taken and crops harvested by the rebels and yet the Armed Forces has maintained what they call active defensive stance,” ang sabi ni Piñol.

We are not going to sacrifice the lives of the soldiers to defend you,” ang kuwento  ng  vice-governor sa sinabi sa kanya ni  Esperon sa kanyang pribadong pakikipag-usap sa dating Armed Forces’ chief of staff.

“[Esperon’s] statement is giving credence on what is happening on the ground,” dagdag pa ni Piñol.

“It looks like it’s exaggerated to do some drama, maybe to get the people awake,” a ni Dureza.

At sabi pa niya: “Would you believe Piñol that the military will not do a thing to protect the civilians?”

“Filing petitions at the Supreme Court, that is the way to do it,” ang banat ni Mr. Secretary.

“I’m not politicking.

Deal or no Deal?

“That is the position of the MILF, but we have processes. The Supreme Court will make that ruling,” ang linaw naman ditto ni Dureza.

Pero ayon naman sa pahayag ng MILF noong martes, nagkasundo raw ang dalawang peace panels na manahimik muna, and would “refrain from acts that would defeat the object and purpose of the agreement.”

  4. I don’t believe that this will lead to civil war. Malaysia and US do not want this to happen as it is with the Philippine government.

  5. I have yet to hear or read Vice Governor Pinol say something about gloria arroyo on the MOA-AD imbroglio. He’s an avid supporter of the administration and was among the advocates of the People’s Initiative. He was among those who are quick to defend gloria arroyo inspite of the shenanigans in the government. Now that his turf is in peril and his constituents on the run because of the marauding MILF, frustrated by the Supreme Court move to stop the MOA-AD signing, all what Pinol is doing is to announce the grave situation in his province. Nary a word tfrom Pinol o point out the brain behind the move that’s now the cause while we’re on the verge of a full blown conflict.

  6. As I read somewhere, the ARMM election is going to be a bloody one. At bakit nga ba hindi? The MILF would like it postponed ant perhaps, gloria arroyo assured them that it will be, because of the seemingly assured position that the signing of the MOA-AD will push through, unhampered. Biglang may nagpumiglas. The public suddenly was awaken from a deep slumber that while they’re sleeping, negotiation to create a separate state within a state was on the works, not even the public, concerned government officials and solons in the covered area were given a hint on what’s going on. According to a senator, such dastardly act by gloria arroyo is nothing but treason!

  7. If I were Pinol, to show his sincerity on what he’s fighting for now, he should denounce the despicable acts of gloria arroyo and esperonn and show his consternation by cutting his the ties with the administration once and for all. Forget the perk and funds he’s getting from Malacanang. Be true to himself which he used to be one when he was an admired journalist.

  9. Headline news at this hour:

MILF given 24 hours to leave areas ‘forcibly’ taken in ARMM

It’s reported that some 800 members of the MILF had reportedly “forcibly” occupied several ARMM towns, including Aliosan in North Cotabato

  10. In statement, North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel Piñol said in the rebels’ attempt to force them into agreeing to the terms and conditions of the aborted signing of secret Memorandum of Agreement, MILF leaders have unleashed their armed troops to attack civilian populated areas.

“Fighting has started in at least four areas—Pigcawayan, Libungan, Midsayap and Aleosan. There are also reports that rebel troops are massing in several areas in Pikit, North Cotabato. This is an old MILF strategy. If they do not get what they want, they use their guns and bombs to terrorize us,” Piñol stressed.

  11. I am not sure what contingency plan has Malacanang to deal with this problem. I am not only concerned with the MILF, what about the MNLF. Do they still have the number, the resources, and specifically the armamanents to be an another force to reckon with?

No way, hehehehe, because it is not a highway.

  18. We are not expert on anything but just with a simple mind to conclude that the MOA-AD is a sellout to the MILF. And it will lead to a giyera patani as feared by pundits and the man in the streets. As we could read now of accounts of the MILF taking over towns and villages and the the population taking up arms to defend themselves, in the matter of days, this will be a full blown conflict.

Simple lang ang dahilan. The government panel under the wand of Gloria Arroyo seems to have forgetten that most wars, simula noong unang panahon at magpahanggang ngayon, started from territorial disputes.
